Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari aides’ comments

Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan has urged all the presidential aides, from the top to the least to speak with decorum and make effort to strive for unity between the presidency and the senate.

In a video released by Daily Trust, the Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, the Senate leader has stated that the senators were elected just like the president of country.

The Senate had called on the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, a professor in law, Itse Sagay, to appear before it grounded on his comments on the Senate’s refusal to approve President Muhammadu Buhari’s 27 commissioner nominees for INEC.

In reaction to the call, Sagay on Wednesday, allegedly said: “That action is childish and irresponsible. Do they think Buhari is a man that can easily be threatened?

“My God! How can people of such character occupy the highest legislative office in the country? Nigeria is finished.

“They have no power or authority to summon me.

“I am not in the category of persons they can summon.

“They ought to know that I do not come within the category of persons they can summon.

“I would advise them to tell their lawyers to check the Sections 89 and 89 of the Constitution. Through that, they will know I don’t come within that category.

“They don’t have authority to summon me. I am outside the group of persons they can summon. I am not a civil servant, I don’t belong to any commission or any…”

The parts of the Constitution quoted by Mr Sagay permits the Senate or House of Representatives to straight investigation into the conduct of affairs of ‘any person, authority, ministry or government department charged, or intended to be charged, with the duty of or responsibility for executing or administering laws enacted by the National Assembly.

Mrs Lauretta Onochie, who is President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, had on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, reproached the senators over their recent rift with the Executive, saying the senators have turned themselves into blackmailers.

She said the upper chamber lawmakers have turned themselves into what she called a self-serving trade union that perform their duty with blackmail.

Onochie posted the information on her Facebook page as her rejoinder to the Executive and Legislative face off over Buhari’s snub to implement some of the recommendations made by the Senate.
