Xenophobia Attack Again: Two Nigerians killed by South African mob
Two Nigerians have been reportedly murdered on Thursday, April 6, 2017, during a mob attack on immigrants in Polokwane, Limpopo Province, South Africa.

While Nigerian high commissioner to South Africa, Mr. Martins Cobham, affirmed the death of a Nigerian who was a mechanic known as Razak Ajao, one Ralph Nwachukwu, also a Nigerian residing in South Africa, claimed another Nigerian was also killed that same yesterday.

Cobham said: “I can confirm that a Nigerian, Razak Ajao, an auto mechanic was killed and four others injured.

“The Nigerian mission has formally registered a protest to the South African ministry of foreign affairs on this sad incident.

“The ministry said they would get back to the mission and that is the situation we are now.

“Meanwhile, the mission is meeting with officials of Nigeria Union on the incident to decide on the next line of action.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed.”

He also said that the commission had also reported the bouts to the South African police.

According to Ralph Nwachukwu, a Nigerian based in the country, could not provide the identity of the other victim, but said the attack began when Nigerians residing in that area were holding a meeting.

Nwachukwu said: “They held a meeting on Tuesday and today (Thursday) was supposed to be a follow up.

“It was at the peak of the meeting that the South African taxi drivers swooped on them and began to attack them with dangerous weapons that led to the death of two while many others were seriously injured.”

Nwachukwu said Nigerians, in process of registering their grievance, attempted to report the issue to the police station but were driven out by the commander at the station instead of listening to them.

Nwachukwu claimed that the station’s commander threatened to shoot them if they refuse to leave the station.

Tellforceblog: Nigerians now celebrate people with questionable wealth – President Buhari
Yemi Osinbajo
President Muhammadu Buhari has on Tuesday, March 22, 2017, said that the value system is so decay now in our society, that Nigerians now celebrates some fellow Nigerians with questionable riches.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria stated this at the 65th Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, in Abuja.

The President who was represented by the Nigerian Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, said many Nigerians in the private organizations and some public servants who have questionable wealth are now being celebrated with alumni acknowledgements, honorary degrees, chieftaincy titles and even higher spiritual titles in the country.

The president said: “Today the attainment of wealth, power or educational influence is the mark of success which is not necessarily a bad thing except we are no longer concerned with the process of attaining success.

“The end it appears today justifies the means which explains why cheating in exams and fake certificates simply do not generate the sort of outrage that such conduct would have generated years ago.

“Public servants and many in the private sectors who have unexplanable wealth are celebrated in one form or the other with alumni recognitions, honourary degrees, chieftaincy titles and even higher religious titles.

“Often, cheating is with the collusion of parents and teachers. This only reflects the failure of values in our larger society.”

A former physician to General Ibrahim Babangida and four other former head of states which includes, Chief Ernest Shonekan, General Sani Abacha, General Abdulsalami Abubakar and General Buhari Muhammadu, Professor Sadiq Suleiman Wali, 76, has passed his own comment on the current situation of the country relating the President's health status.

Daily Trust reported Prof. Wali said that he became physician to the president following his unreserved request.

“General Muhammadu Buhari requested that I should be his physician and I knew him very well, personally, because we were in Lagos during the January 1966 coup. Murtala, Gowon, Buhari were all around and that was how we got to know each other. So, I felt I should do it. I was also in the army, as during the civil war doctors had to be dragged into service.

“I was posted to Awka, the brigade where Buhari was, and I was impressed by his character, integrity and honesty. So when he became Head of State and requested for my services, I accepted.

‘But a year and a half after, there was a coup. I was actually in the United States together with Buhari’s family at the time. Eventually, we had to come back, and when we returned I went to then president, General Ibrahim Babangida and said, ‘I took two years leave of absence from the university, and even though it hadn’t elapsed, I could go back.’ But he said shouldn’t. So I stayed there, and for a very long time.

“After him came Chief Ernest Shonekan, with whom I worked for only a few months. Then came General Sani Abacha, and that was the most challenging one. I would tell each of them that I would like to go, but they would plead that I should stay.

Stating his own view on the foreign medical trips by the president, the professor noted:

“Foreign medical travel by Nigerian presidents and heads of state are not unusual, so also extension of stay while away on treatment. I remember when President IBB when to France for medical treatment in 1986, for a period of one month, we had to request for an extension by a whole month on the advice of the doctors.

“As for President Buhari, he regularly went for checkups, except for the period of 1985 to 1988 when he was detained. As for the recent extensions requested for by the president on the recommendation of his doctors, it is important to understand the principle guiding the relationship between doctors and patients.

“There are four ethical principles, namely: Autonomy, where a doctor has to explain any action he intends to take with its advantage and disadvantage, possible harms and benefits. The patient has the right to accept or reject the recommendations. Then there is Beneficence, where all actions and procedures should be of benefit to the patient. In the case of Malfeasance, it’s ‘do no harm."

“Then there is Justice, when benefit to the patient and community should be assessed. If there is danger to the community, the doctor can override the wishes of the patient like Lassa fever, Ebola disease and so on. In such cases, the doctor is obliged to report to appropriate health authorities."

The professor however admonished Nigerians to be patient with the president since it's based on his doctor's advice.

He said:“We should be patient, sympathize with the president, and pray for his early return home. The acting president is working very hard and governance has continued smoothly.

“He should be patient, accept his doctor’s advice, noting the overwhelming support he enjoys."
