A Bill for an Act to deliver the ban of Facial Mutilation which is being sponsored by Senator Dino Melaye, came up for second reading yesterday, March, 2017.
Example of region with believe in facial mutilation is Yoruba land. It is called tribal mark, they are scarification which they said are specific identification and beautification marks, designed on a person’s face or body.
The tribal marks are part of the Yoruba culture, although this culture is fast fading away, like most other cultures within Nigeria.
If this Bill is passed into law, parents will be prohibited from mutilating the faces of their children all in an attempt to give them tribal marks.
