Text: John 3:22-36
From the text John 3:22"After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized". John testified again about Jesus. There were people who will claim they belief on the word of God. But there is something that will in their believe.
They were merely religious, but because of that expectation, they only believe in Matthew 4:12 "Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee" 13 "And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Copernaum, which is upon the sea coast ,in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim". 14" That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet saying ". From the time Jesus began to preach " REPENTANCE " for the kingdom of God is hath hand. In the book of Mark 1:14,15 - Jesus Christ preached a specific gospel - not about Himself, but " the gospel of the kingdom of God" "Gospel" When Jesus Christ was on earth, He preached the gospel of the Kingdom of God verse 14" Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God " verse 15" And saying. The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom if God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel".
However, something foundational happened before He began preaching the gospel and performing the various miracles that showed He was from God. Something essential happened before He could preach and perform works as a man. Jesus testifies in Luke 4:18 that He was "anointed" to preach the gospel to the poor, another way of saying that He was set apart. He says that He could do nothing of Himself, but only what He saw the Father do. He declares that the works He did bore witness that the Father had sent Him, meaning He was being directed by the Father.
John the fore runner demonstrates this same principle when saying, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven". All of these statements set the stage for understanding Christ's preaching. When Jesus went about preaching the gospel, saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent , and believe in the gospel (Mark 1:14-15 ), the only reason it had any effect is because He had been sanctified - set apart - by the Father to do this.
POINT (1): THE HUMBLE EXPRESSION OF JOHN.
John 3:22,23; John 4:1,2;John 3:25; Ecclesiastes 4:4; John 3:27; Acts 13:25; John 3:29; Proverbs 15:33; Proverbs 29:23; Micah 6:8; Matthew 18:1-4.
The ministry of Jesus, he came to a particular place and tarry there in, and saw the disciples, he matured them, he baptised them in verse 23 "And John also was baptizing in Enon near to salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized". Jesus was doing the work, also John doing the same work and there is no competition for there is complementary in doing the ministry.
They complement (support) each other in working together in ministry. It was the disciple doing the baptism, after which Jesus baptised them after their work. In John 3:25, talking about the Jesus Christ, by calling him MASTER! In Ecclesiastes 4:4 - What John is saying here is that, the people will not bring him jealously, envy . John said, " A man can not receive everything, except it is given him in heaven" because you must trust in the wisdom of God. There is no jealousy in his work, because God as not give him (John) the spirit of jealousy from heaven. When you don't have the spirit of jealousy, envy, you will have peace in your heart. Jesus is honour, He is supreme than any man. In Colossians 1:16-18, John said, Jesus Christ is the creator, He is the Mighty and by him all things conceive. Without the pre eminent of Christ, john ministry might be full of envy and jealousy. The reaction of John in doing the work.
- Genuine humility
- Unpretending humility
- Sincere humility
- Transparent humility
- Open humility
- Artless humility
- Spontaneous humility
- Pure humility
- Unfaded humility.
This means, your ministry, your place in the Society is important in the sight of God.
POINT (2): THE HEAVENLY EXALTATION OF JESUS.
John 3:31; Ephesians 1:20; Philippians 2:9; 1Peter 3:22;John 3:32,11; Luke 10:22.
Here is John still talking, and those who are talking to him want to start up jealousy and envy - from the beginning of verse 31"“He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.” he repeated it to the people about the mighty Jesus Christ. He is our sanctifier, the chief corner stone, the bride groom, the son of righteousness ,and he is the author and the finisher of our faith, he is the king of the Glory (He is above all) above all angels in heaven, above all the saints in glory, He is above all the churches that ever live and will still live - Jesus Christ is above all, above a the Highest places where Jesus Christ reign. In 1Peter 3:22 " Who is gone into heaven and is of the right hand of God: angles and authorities and powers being made subject unto him". i.e we all submit unto him.
“He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is
above all.” Because the father (God) love Jesus Christ, he had shown him everything. Jesus is saying what the father revealed unto him, that is what he is giving everyone - John 3:34 "For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him." The Lord gave him the spirit abundantly without measure in verse 35" The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand ". I BELONG TO JESUS!
POINT (3) :THE HAPPY OF THE HOPELESS ETERNITY AFTER JUDGEMENT.
John 3:36; John 5:24; 1 John 5:11,13,20; John 3:36; John 5:28-29; Romans 1:18; Daniel 12:3; Daniel 30:15.
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.". Those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, when you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you will be happy and have everlasting life. But, those who do not believe with not have it ( Everlasting life) " For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life". The moment you gave your life to Jesus, and you said (confess) you believe, eternal life came and everlasting. Those who believe with have everlasting life, eternal life in 1John 3:13 "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” Believe that Jesus died for you, those who do not believe, will not have life eternal life. In Romans 1:18 - Those who hold the truth, and believe on it, will have everlasting life, and eternal life. He that believeth not face the wrath of God.
There is happy eternity await us if we all believe, but those who believe not, hopeless eternity await some. The choice is yours. One side is happy forever, and the other side is hopeless forever. He said, choose life. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be save! Jesus is the Saviour, confess and commit yourself unto him. Tell it all to Him and eternal life is yours.
