The Senate President Bukola Saraki read the letter during plenary on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.
In the letter, President Buhari said he does not have any definite date for his return as his resumption back to work can only be determined by his doctors.
The President said his reason for the trip to the UK is to follow-up his on-gong treatments and test in London.
The letter stated that length of President Buhari's stay in London will be determined only by his doctors.
Acting president Yemi Osinbajo is expected to continue with the government functions pending the arrival of the president.
However, there was a slight drama after reading the letter, Senator Mao Ohabunwa reacted to the position given to Yemi Osinbajo in the letter.
Ohabunwa raised a point of order stating that there is no provision in the Nigerian constitution for a Coordinating vice president as stated in President Buhari's letter.
